Spartan EOD Services
Spartan offers laboratory and pilot testing of customer water samples to determine if the Electrolytic Organic Destruction (EOD)
process will meet the treatment requirements of individual customers.
The process for evaluating the applicability of the EOD process has three basic steps that are outlined below:
1. Assessment of the Stream to be Treated and the Treatment Requirements.
The first step is to gather facts about the process and the treatment targets. Spartan will review the data and determine if EOD is
a an economic option for the stream to be treated.
2. Laboratory Scale Testing of the EOD Process on a Small Sample.
If the initial assessment indicates that EOD might be an effective treatment option, a small sample of the water to be treated will
be requested. This sample will be run through a laboratory scale treatment system using about 3 liters of solution. During
processing, samples will be taken and returned to the customer for analysis, or Spartan can arrange for the analytical work.
Based on the results, Spartan will be able to provide a budgetary estimate for the EOD system to treat the water. Spartan
charges a nominal fee for this laboratory evaluation. The picture below shows a schematic of the pilot test system and an actual
photo of the system:
3. Pilot Testing on a Larger Sample.
If laboratory results indicate that EOD is a technically and economically feasible
process, larger scale tests are generally needed. Testing at the customer site
permits the customer to closely observe the tests and get a feel for the operation of
the equipment.
The amount of pilot testing will depend on the consistency of the streams to be
treated and the volumes involved. Spartan would expect 1-5 days to be sufficient for
most customers. Spartan charges a fee for pilot testing based on the duration of the
test.
The figure above shows a photo of a pilot EOD system. It uses one full sized anode
and two full sized cathodes. The results from the pilot system can be scaled to a full
size system.
